Definition

The per capita cost of the least expensive locally available foods to meet requirements for energy and food-based dietary guidelines, per capita, per day (current PPP US$).

Relevance

Food-based dietary guidelines are designed to achieve nutrient adequacy and provide protection of health. This indicator reflects the cost of purchasing a diet aligned to a diet that reflects average amounts in guidelines.
